Solar energy is one of the most easily popularized and promoted clean energy sources among renewable energy types. Photovoltaic (PV) power generation, as the primary form of solar energy utilization, plays a crucial role in addressing global climate change, haze control, energy conservation, emission reduction, and energy transition.
Photovoltaics refers to solar photovoltaic power generation systems, a new type of power generation technology that utilizes the photovoltaic effect of solar cell semiconductor materials to directly convert solar radiation into electricity. It can operate independently or be connected to the grid.
PV agriculture, also known as agrivoltaics, is not limited to photovoltaics but also includes solar thermal applications. PV agriculture involves the extensive application of solar power generation technology in modern agricultural practices such as planting, irrigation, pest control, and powering agricultural machinery. It primarily takes forms such as PV irrigation, PV greenhouses, PV farming, and PV farms.
"PV + agriculture" is an emerging agricultural model that not only addresses the power supply needs for irrigation machinery but also avoids conflicts between the PV industry and agriculture over land use. Additionally, surplus electricity generated can be sold to the national grid.
Currently, PV agriculture mainly encompasses four models: PV planting, PV farming, PV water conservancy, and PV village housing. These are further divided into categories such as mushroom PV, fishery-PV complementarity, vegetable (fruit) PV, livestock (animal husbandry) PV, forestry PV, medicinal herb PV, ecological PV, and water conservancy PV. Amid the rapid development of the PV industry, PV agriculture plays a significant role and holds broad prospects for future growth.
